Windmills, Tulips, & Fairytale Scenes

July 14, 2023 by Donna Rombough

Perhaps one of the most delightful ways to welcome spring is to visit a place where fields are ablaze with colour and the scent of sweet flowers is mesmerizing.

Each April, Craig Travel introduces travellers to the delights of cruising the canals and Waterways of the Netherlands and Belgium, an idyllic way to experience the lush landscapes, historical landmarks and charming towns and villages, while at the same time experiencing the kaleidoscope of colours of spectacular spring flowers everywhere.

During this voyage, our home away from home is the the elegant ms Amadeus Imperial, a purpose-built ship constructed to fit comfortably through the calm waters of Holland Belgium. As you might imagine, with just 72 spacious outside cabins, space is at a premium and those wishing to experience this delightful voyage must act early each year. Space is already limited for 2024.

Keukenhof Gardens
The world-famous Keukenhof Gardens

Nowhere is there a more magical introduction to spring than at Holland’s spectacular Keukenhof Gardens Flower Show near Amsterdam, the world’s largest show of its kind, attended by visitors from around the world. In addition to Keukenhof’s flower show, enjoy stunning countryside and colourful tulip fields, all while sailing along picturesque canals and waterways. Cruise past historic windmills from a bygone era of Dutch innovation and visit the captivating cities and sites that make this region famous. Cities, towns and picturesque villages compete to be the prettiest and most colourful all season long, but even more so during this special time in spring.

Brussels
The lively squares of Brussels

Take in the architecture and culture that make Holland and Belgium unique; visit the tiny fishing villages where residents still wear traditional dress; learn how the famous Dutch cheese is made and enjoy a taste or two. Meander through the charming streets and alleyways of Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam, Antwerp and medieval Ghent and wander their historic squares. In the historic city of Arnhem, visit sites where the dramatic events of WWII unfolded. Hear the history of the military operations and significant battles that took place. Explore the award-winning Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek and later, at the Kroller-Muller Museum see a display of Van Gogh paintings and evocative works of Piet Mondrian, Paul Gauguin and Pablo Picasso.

History, culture, architecture and the magical beauty of spring in Holland and Belgium are yours to experience April 15 – 23, 2024. My advice is make your reservations very soon as space on this departure is very limited.
