Travel Insurance

Having Travel Insurance is Having Peace of Mind

Travel insurance can help protect your health and finances by covering costs related to emergency medical care and the cancellation or interruption of your trip, with expert 24/7 assistance and guided care when you need it most.

Protection From Unexpected Events

Get coverage in case something unexpected happens while you are abroad or away from your home province, such as medical emergencies, flight cancellations, lost baggage, and more.

Trip Cancellation and Interruption Benefits

Travel often involves non-refundable deposits or reservations. If something unexpected occurs and you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, having travel insurance can help you recoup some or all of those prepaid costs.

Sense of Security

Having an extra layer of protection can give you peace of mind, allowing you to focus on enjoying your trip rather than worrying about potential issues.

FAQs

How is pricing determined?

The new rating model offers more accurate premiums for individual travellers. The new rating considers a few key factors specific to each individual including age, destination (country), trip length, and trip booking window (how far in advance of departure the travel insurance is purchased). This means the quote is priced accordingly for every person’s unique travel situation.

At what age is a medical questionnaire required?

Customers aged 65 or older will now be required to complete a short 3-question medical screening. Other new features include a standard 150-day stability period on the pre-existing medical conditions clause for everyone aged 65+ with no upper age limit. In addition, medical screening will now be used to determine pricing, but not eligibility. Only one medical screening can be completed per individual policy.

What options are available in the new product suite to provide flexible Trip Cancellation?

We now offer Cancel Anytime - for Unforeseen Reasons. This new coverage allows your customer the flexibility to cancel their trip right up until the day of departure for almost any unforeseeable reason. Benefits are payable for up to 60% of the trip cost subject to certain exclusions. Cancel Anytime can only be added to our Comprehensive and Non-medical Packages for an additional premium.

I have insurance on my credit card. Is that enough coverage?
  • Credit cards do not always provide the complete range of travel insurance benefits that travellers may need.
  • Many credit card issuers offer travel accident benefits but with much lower coverage limits.
  • Credit card coverage may stop at certain ages (for example age 65).
  • Your credit card might not cover your spouse or dependents.
  • Your credit card might not cover the cost of your trip if you have to return earlier or later than scheduled.
  • Your credit card might not cover you for the entire trip length.
I have insurance through my employer. Is that enough coverage?
  • Many employer plans have exclusions that could limit coverage amounts.
  • These plans do not usually include trip cancellation and interruption or baggage coverage.
  • Travel insurance provides end-to-end protection to help make difficult situations better.
Is there coverage for pandemics and epidemics?

Coverage for epidemics and pandemics, including COVID-19 is now included in the policy wording and offers:

  • Trip Cancellation: COVID-19 is covered as an illness should the insured individual, travelling companion or family member contract COVID-19, or if they are required to quarantine (individual and/or family not general public)
  • Trip Interruption: Same as Trip Cancellation above
  • Emergency Medical: Covered as long as there is no Government issued Level 3 or Level 4 travel advisory for COVID-19 in place for the destination
Note: Travel Advisories

Travel advisories can impact travel insurance and are subject to change. They may be issued, lifted, and then reinstated depending on the status of the reason for the travel advisory.
It is critical to plan ahead, do your research and regularly review all requirements for your departure, arrival at your destination, and return to Canada. As with every trip, we recommend you review and follow Government of Canada travel advisories.

Note: Mandatory Insurance Requirements
Insurance is mandatory for entrance into some countries, and you may be denied entry if you do not have proof of coverage.
