Scotland

President's Pick: Scotland

July 26 - August 8, 2024 | Journey Leader: Mary Taylor

Scotland holds a special place in my heart. It is not only the historic homeland of the Craig clan, but one of my favourite destinations. Each year we offer a fantastic adventure through the Highlands and Isles of this mystical land.

Stunning views await!

This year’s journey takes place July 26 – August 8. Memories of my most recent visit are painted with images of stunning landscapes, from the peaks surrounding Glencoe Valley to the misty shores of the Isle of Skye. I recall the interesting visits to Stirling Castle, rich with the history of the battles at its gates. It provided a peek into the world of Scotland’s Renaissance kings and queens, the rich history and the castle’s glorious craftsmanship. And, I admit, I also enjoyed our cruise in search of the legendary Loch Ness monster. Alas, there were no sightings of old Nessie, but it was a delightful day never-the-less!

No tour of Scotland is complete without a performance of the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo featuring the majestic Scottish pipe bands. The tattoo takes place on the esplanade of the iconic Edinburgh Castle and our tour will be there to enjoy it all. Over the centuries, the castle has been an ancient stronghold, a home to royalty, an army headquarters and today is Edinburgh’s top attraction. We will also take in the popular Fringe Festival, a three-week festival of performing arts, when the streets are alive with activity, buskers and special events. This is just a taste of what’s in store.
