President's Pick: Hiking the Dolomites & the Venetian Lagoon

Calling all energetic hikers to don your hiking boots and get set for a magical journey as you hike with me through some of northern Italy’s most spectacular landscapes. Northern Italy and the stunning Dolomites have some of Europe’s most glorious scenery and one of the best ways to take it all in, is on foot.
We’ll discover the culture, cuisine, the wine, and la dolce vita, “the sweet life” of this region. From our starting point in Venice, we’ll head towards the Italian Alps. Along the way, let’s stop at a rustic country home where the owner, a professional chef, will treat us to a cooking class.
Another day sees us venturing deeper into the Dolomite Region ascending via cable car to a charming mountain cabin refuge surrounded by breathtaking vistas. The next we shall find ourselves walking along a rocky ridgeline, through meadows, and ending in a local spot for a cool drink and hot meal. Another still we shall walk through valleys surrounded by towering mountains, and along trails that boast pools, rapids and waterfalls alongside.
Following our descent from the majestic Alps, we arrive in Venice, one of Europe’s most romantic cities, where its most iconic landmarks…the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square with the Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Basilica, and the Bridge of Sighs await. We’ll visit the charming islands of Murano and Burano, enjoy famous cuisine and have time on our own to peruse the rabbit warren of narrow streets, shops, restaurants and cafes that surround this unique city.
