Tour members gather in Toronto for the evening flight to Bogota.

Upon arrival, we are transferred to our centrally located hotel for an early check-in. Later today, we will acclimatize to our new Andean surroundings on a brief walking tour of the area before convening for our welcome dinner in the evening.

Bioxury Hotel (3 nights)

Zipaquira, a quaint town just outside Bogota, is home to the awe-inspiring Salt Cathedral. Carved 180m deep into a salt mine utilized since pre-Columbian times, this remarkable underground structure showcases intricate salt and marble sculptures, earning its place as one of Colombia's seven wonders. Upon returning to Bogota, we relish the remainder of the day at leisure.

Today, we explore the historic heart of La Candelaria, where charming colonial buildings host trendy cafes and bars echoing with live music. Then we venture to the pre-Columbian Plaza de Bolivar, framed by Bogota's architectural gems: the City Hall, Congress, Supreme Court, and the Primada Cathedral. We dive into Colombia's vibrant history at the Gold Museum, home to over 6,000 pre-Hispanic gold artifacts, including the iconic Muisca Golden Raft. This artifact symbolizes the ritual where a new Muisca ruler, cloaked in gold dust, would voyage on the raft to Guatavita Lake, submerging treasures, inspiring the enduring legend of El Dorado and captivating European explorers for centuries. We conclude at the Botero Museum, showcasing the works of Colombia's foremost artist, Fernando Botero.

Our Bogota adventure continues at the colourful Paloquemao Market, brimming with an array of delicious exotic fruits. Next, we ascend the majestic Monserrate Mountain via a cable car, where a 17th-century monastery dedicated to El Señor Caído (The Fallen Lord) awaits, offering breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings. Afterwards, a short flight takes us to Armenia, a key city in Colombia's famed coffee region. En route, soak in the stunning mountain panoramas as we journey towards the picturesque village of Pereira.

Casa San Carlos Lodge (3 nights)

Embark on a scenic drive through the Cocora Valley, famously dubbed the "Valley of the Palms", aboard a classic Willys Jeep. Surrounded by towering mountains, the valley boasts an enchanting landscape dotted with Colombia's national tree, the giant wax palm. Breathe in the crisp mountain air as you wander the foothills of the Andes before venturing to the charming village of Salento. Along Calle Real, delve into a myriad of handicraft stalls before savouring delectable culinary delights for lunch. At the end of Calle Real, ascend the staircase leading to Alto de La Cruz, a hill crowned with a cross. From this elevated perch, soak in breathtaking vistas of the Cocora Valley and the majestic Andean peaks surrounding it.

In the heart of Manizales lies the family-owned sanctuary of biodiversity, Finca Romelia. Home to over 840 orchid species, 216 bird species, and a fascinating array of carnivorous plants, this destination promises an enchanting experience. Traverse the serene temperate rainforests and meandering streams that weave through the mountains, all while gaining insight into local agricultural practices and conservation efforts. Journey onward to Finca Venecia, a local coffee farm, where you will unravel the process of transforming the humble coffee bean into one of the world's most cherished beverages. Wander through the rolling grounds of the farm, weaving among rows of plants, and uncover the meticulous steps involved in cleaning and roasting the beans before they are brewed and tasted.

Fly to Medellin, dubbed the "City of Eternal Spring", where despite its tumultuous past, it has blossomed into one of the world's most vibrant and welcoming destinations. Explore downtown Medellín and its historical core, immersing yourself in the rhythmic beats of local musicians and the soulful melodies of traditional "Guasca" music at Parque Berrío. Walk through the energetic streets to the iconic Botero Plaza, adorned with 23 captivating sculptures by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, which have become emblematic of the city. A scenic cable car ride will offer unparalleled panoramic views of this transformed metropolis.

Landmark Hotel (3 nights)

Our day takes us to the expansive Botanical Garden of Medellin, stretching across 14 hectares and showcasing a diverse collection of 4,500 plant varieties, highlighted by a special orchid collection, Colombia's national flower. Engage with one of the garden's biologists and gain firsthand insight into the ecological and social significance of this protected oasis nestled within urban Medellin. Then, enjoy a refreshing nature walk in Arvi Park, concluding with a leisurely picnic amidst this peaceful setting.

Today, we'll venture into Medellin's countryside, enjoying the breathtaking scenery of rolling hills and lush landscapes en route to the extraordinary Peñol Boulder, standing tall at an impressive 656 feet. For the daring, an opportunity awaits to conquer the 740 steps leading to its summit. We journey further east to the charming village of Guatape, famed for its iconic white and red church and vibrant array of colourful homes.

We'll fly to the Caribbean coast and the storied city of Cartagena. After a satisfying lunch, our guide will lead us on a walking tour through the old town, highlighting landmarks such as the convent and church of Saint Peter Claver and the Afro-Caribbean Museum. In Cartagena's historic center, vibrant hues paint every corner, balconies overflow with blooming flowers, and history whispers through the weathered wooden doors of colonial structures.

Hotel Osh (3 nights)

Prepare to be amazed by Colombia's spectacular avian diversity at the National Aviary, an essential stop for bird enthusiasts. This extraordinary sanctuary offers unmatched access to the country's renowned birdlife, with over 1,900 recorded species. Join us on an educational tour to discover the significance of animal welfare practices.

This day is yours to explore at your leisure. The city's standout attraction is Castillo San Felipe, a colossal fortress that dominates the old town and harbour. Situated atop the highest point, the Convent of Santa Cruz de la Popa affords breathtaking vistas of the sprawling cityscape, the bustling harbour, and the endless expanse of the azure Caribbean Sea stretching to the distant horizon.

This morning, we fly back to Bogota to experience one of Colombia's unique sporting traditions: Tejo. The game involves hurling metal pucks at a target embedded with gunpowder, resulting in an exhilarating pop upon impact. Later in the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner.
