Alaska's Inside Passage

Keen adventurers from across Canada fly to Vancouver and transfer to Canada Place Pier to embark on the luxurious ms Zaandam, our home for seven wonderful nights of cruising. Enjoy the panorama of Vancouver's harbour and the surrounding mountains as we sail under the Lion's Gate Bridge to begin our cruise.

Embark / Sail 4:00pm

The fabled Inside Passage is one of the most scenic sea lanes in the world, and one of the few where deep draft vessels can sail close to steep mountain walls. The scenery is unbelievable, with forests in a hundred shades of green, tumbling turquoise glaciers, and evocative towns full of history, culture, and adventure. With most of Southeast Alaska accessible only by boat or plane, the Inside Passage is a lifeline to the outside world, humming with activity all day long.

Weather permitting, we cruise the sapphire waters of Tracy Arm, passing by Sawyer Glacier. This afternoon, we are in Alaska’s scenic capital, surrounded by towering peaks.  Try your hand at the thrill of salmon fishing—Alaskan style, pan for glinting flecks of gold, or soak up vistas only accessible by air. The options are plentiful, and the choice is yours.

Arrive Juneau 1:00pm / Depart 10:00pm

It is fitting that we call at Skagway, the gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush. As we stroll along the boardwalk, step back in time to experience another era. Drop by an old-time saloon,  hear about the infamous Soapy Smith, or embark on the White Pass and Yukon Railway to retrace The Trail of '98, the tortuous route followed by prospectors en route to the Yukon. 

Arrive 7:00am / Sail 9:00pm

Early this morning, we are treated to a breathtaking sight: rocky promontories that mark the entrance to this spectacular bay. Forested slopes give way to jagged peaks, and rivers of ice cascade down the steep slopes into the tranquil waters below. Watch in wonder as pinnacles of ice split from the glacial cliff and crash into the sea. Local experts provide fascinating insights into the prehistoric formations we are witnessing and help us spot the abundant wildlife that calls this place home. Possible sightings include harbour seals, mountain goats, humpback whales, schools of orcas, bald eagles, and even black bears.

Arrive 7:00am / Depart 4:00pm

Today we arrive at the captivating port of Ketchikan, a bustling hub of activity and culture.     We will have ample time to meander through the town’s many intriguing shops, in search of unique local crafts. Take a stroll down the historic Creek Street, a vibrant boardwalk built over the town’s salmon creek. Nearby is Totem Bight State Historical Park, where we can explore a replica of Tlingit Village and gain insight into the rich history and traditions of the indigenous people of the region. For a truly unforgettable experience, consider taking a flight over the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument.

Arrive 11:00am / Sail 7:00pm

Our final full day is spent at leisure as we cruise the Inside Passage past forest-clad hills and serene inlets. Relax on deck, taking in the passing vistas, or trade stories with newfound friends, reminiscing about the immense beauty and adventures of the past week.

Upon our early morning arrival in Vancouver, we will transfer to the airport to catch our homeward-bound flights. For those who have made prior arrangements, there is an opportunity to extend their stay in Vancouver and explore the city further.
