In my article on packing tips in the June 2014 issue of Travel Talk, I promised to let you know how the new Heys Packing Cubes I had just purchased, worked for me.  I have used them on two journeys to date and have to say that I love them.  Searching from top to bottom for a certain item is a thing of the past.  No more refolding or reorganizing everything each time I look for an item…definitely worth the money.

Regardless of which destinations we plan for our travellers, it is always our intention to include elements which are experiential, which allow our group members to get involved in the journey, not simply to watch it pass by.

Many times while travelling with our group members, I have heard “I’d love to do a river cruise, but it seems so expensive.”  This is a legitimate comment from prospective first time river cruisers and an understandable one.  At first glance, looking at the cost of a comparable number of days on a similar class ocean cruise compared with a similar length river cruise, it is likely the river cruise price will be somewhat higher.

Norway is a beautiful country.  The scenery is spectacular and the country isn't spoiled by any commercialism whatsoever....no billboards, no one selling trinkets, no tourist souvenirs.

Join Craig Travel on this Journey to experience one of Ethiopia's most significant and spectacular celebrations, the annual Timkat Festival. Timkat is the Ethiopian Orthodox celebration of Epiphany, and is an important event in the country's Christian heritage which dates back to the very early days of Christianity. Epiphany is celebrated as a sacred day commemorating Christ's baptism in the Jordan River, and his manifestation as the Messiah.

We were leaving the Mara Ashnil Luxury Tented Camp in East Africa.  Luxury tents was an absolute understatement. We had been on safaris where we had seen a pregnant cheetah with her kill, rode in a hot air ballon, witnessed lions, giraffes, zebras, hippos and many more animals really up close. We were now to fly to the Serengeti. We had four Land-cruisers with six people in each. Terrific on the safaris. Everyone had their own space and had complete visibility of everything. We had a great group who were very friendly and we all shared the excitement of the days.

1. For starters, more than 99 percent of the 4.3 million people who live in Norway speak Norwegian, the official language. Norwegian has two written forms of language: Bokmål (literally "book language") and Nynorsk ("New Norwegian"). Although both have the same legal recognition, Bokmål is more common. You will see both on signs throughout the country.

I must admit – I am very lucky. I am able to travel to many parts of the world and since I plan many of our programs, I am able to do it as I would like. So when I come across a destination that surprises me in a most pleasant way, a destination which is not what I might expect, a destination that really sets itself apart, I want to talk about it.

Our journey to Sri Lanka and the Maldives was just such an adventure – it was a journey that surpassed all my expectations.
