Amsterdam is the Netherland’s capital city and is one of Europe’s most popular cities with visitors – and for plenty of good reasons! The city is most famous for its historic and intricate canal system, many bridges, colourful flower markets, bustling streets and being home to more bikes than people. Amsterdam is our entry point to several of our trips, including the upcoming journey to explore the Waterways of Holland and Belgium.

Arriving in Japan, one can’t help but feel special and very much welcomed. From porters, coach drivers, waiters, hotel staff, tour guides and locals passing on the street, everyone bows to greet one another. On the ultra modern bullet train, a staff member delivered lovely lunch boxes to each of our seats. As she was leaving our car, she turned and quietly bowed before departing. This pleasant bowing is an invitation of peace and mutual respect, as well as a constant reminder of Japan’s charming culture.

Spring seems later every year ...

The elusive time which we call Spring
when flowers bloom and birds do sing.
And yet the elements do plot
to give us one more parting shot
of Winter harsh, and oh, so cruel
to remind us yet who makes the rules.

The power to bring us all good things
is shaded by this weather thing.
Mother Nature should be more kind
but after all she must remind
that we’ve not done her well of late
with pollution, waste, and oceans state.
