Slowly but surely, the world is getting better. Over 1.4 billion people have received their first COVID-19 vaccination including over 50% of all Canadians. In Europe, the United States, Canada and other regions, we are beginning to see restrictions easing and many parts of the world are now opening their borders for international travel.
It is encouraging to learn that ACTA (Association of Canadian Travel Agencies) is currently working with the Canadian government to develop vaccination documentation. With other G20 countries there are ongoing discussions on the need to create a digital verification tool for international travel, the “vaccine passport”. Similar to the old yellow certificate that was an entry requirement at the border of some countries, it will allow everyone a simple and effective way to confirm those who have been vaccinated.
Countries, airlines, cruise lines (both ocean and river), tour operators and other travel related operators are now adopting “proof of vaccination” (instead of requiring numerous Covid tests) as an entry or travel requirement. Many major cruise lines now require all passengers and crew to be vaccinated and others are quickly following suit. This requirement has now been solidified by the updated CSO (Conditional Sail Order) from the CDC (The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
Our first priority at Craig Travel is always the safety and wellbeing of our travellers. We believe the best way to achieve this is to require that all group members be fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure. This will help to ensure that our programs are able operate smoothly from start to finish and give group members peace of mind, allowing everyone the freedom to enjoy their well-deserved travel experience.
If you are currently booked on one of our programs and have no intention or desire to be vaccinated, we ask that you contact our office now or prior to the first cancellation penalty date to advise us. We are in the process of developing formal procedures on how to implement this new policy and will be in contact with all currently booked group members in due course. (Note: if you are unable to be vaccinated for medical or other reasons, please let us know and we will council you on a case-by-case basis).
As you can appreciate and as we have all seen, the travel landscape is changing at a rapid pace and there will undoubtedly be further adjustments to advisories and travel requirements in the coming days and months. Please stay tuned and pay close attention to government advisories.
