What made you decide you would like to tour lead for Craig Travel?
I have a love for travel which I do often, but I prefer to share my adventures with others. Craig’s reputation spoke for itself and a good friend, who has been a long time Tour Leader, felt that I would be an asset to Craig Travel and its many clients.
What specifically, in your career, may have prepared you for this position?
With over 40 years in the education sector, I was very comfortable working with groups of students and the local community to build positive relationships. I organized many trips and events which focused on learning and experiencing new opportunities. Over those many years I learned that patience, understanding, common sense and a good sense of humour helped to resolve most challenges.
What has been your favourite destination so far and why?
My very first tour involved Hiking in Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast. The active component of this trip fit well with my healthy living, attitude and life style. The days were filled with amazing vistas, great food and sharing adventures with a wonderful group of fellow travellers.
What destinations are still on your bucket list and why?
Iceland because of its natural beauty. I also look forward to a future opportunity to explore New Zealand which continues to inspire me with its varied geography.
Name 3 things that you feel will be most rewarding about escorting our groups.
Watching group members enjoy and act like ‘kids in a candy store’ as they embrace new adventures. Meeting wonderful people from across our country that act as true ambassadors of Canada as they experience new cultures. Sharing new experiences and learning from seasoned Craig travellers that bring varied and interesting life stories.
What is the next group you have been assigned to lead?
As you read this, I will be leading the Baltic Adventure and after that the Alpine Beauty hiking tour at the end of September, which now has a waitlist. In May 2020, I will lead a tour to Iceland!
What are your hobbies when you are not travelling?
I like to stay active and spend quality time with my wife and three grown children.
I have always strived to help others to the best of my ability whether it was in my profession or in the local community. I am someone who ‘rolls up their sleeves” to make things work for the better. My wife will be retiring at the end of this year and I look forward to having her co-lead future tours. She is truly amazing and loves to be with people also!
