Craig Travel's Staff and Group Escort's Favourite Memories

While cruising may still be something far off in the future for many, we certainly miss it here at Craig Travel! “My favourite part of cruising is all of the amazing photo opportunities it affords, and I can’t wait until I can safely cruise again to practice my travel photography,” says Rob Craig, President of Craig Travel. We asked some of our staff and group escorts what some of their best cruising memories are, along with their favourite cruise lines that they can’t wait to return to.

Roslyn Craig - Travel Consultant and Group Escort

  1. What is your favourite part of cruising and why?

I find cruising wonderfully relaxing.  You simply unpack and enjoy the amenities on board.  Everything is at your fingertips, fine dining, entertainment, the spa, fresh sea air or falling asleep in a deck chair, you are not confined to a schedule - you can make your own or not.  A definite highlight is exploring the various ports which offer a host of opportunities  to discover something new and exciting.

  2. Which cruise line is your favourite and why?

My favourite cruise lines would be Holland America, Oceania, Paul Gauguin and Seabourn.  I have sailed on Holland America the most and definitely would like to do more sailings with and Paul Gauguin and Seabourn. River cruises are also not to be missed and AmaWaterways and Pandaw are top of my list.

  1. What is your favourite memory on a cruise ship?

I have many fond memories from cruising over the years but most recent would be Craig Travel's 50th Anniversary cruise sailing from Singapore to Brisbane. It was a wonderful time spent sharing new experiences and reminiscing alike with friends.

  2. What is your favourite cruising destination?

It is actually hard to narrow it down to just one favourite destination as I have enjoyed so many cruises all over the world.  But if I had to choose one it would be South East Asia.

  1. What is your favourite part of cruising and why?

Without doubt, it’s the feeling of total relaxation and of being relieved of most responsibilities of daily life - even if it's only for a week or so. This is followed closely by the fact that it allows us to just sit back and explore areas of the world that we have not yet had the opportunity to discover.

  2. Which cruise line is your favourite and why?

This is a hard one to answer!  If we are talking about River Cruising in Europe, then hands down it would be AmaWaterways, followed closely by Hurtigruten out of Norway. For ocean going cruises, again a close call between HAL “The largest little ships ever built ”,  and several others that come close to the quality of HAL. One of the most important reasons is the itineraries, since as we get older and more discriminating, ports of call become ever so much more important. This is closely followed by the food and the entertainment offered by the cruise line. One must never overlook the opportunities of meeting and exploring new cultures, but equally important the opportunity of meeting new travelling companions that in many cases become dear friends following the cruise.

  1. What is your favourite memory on a cruise ship?

Some of our favourite memories would include the ceremonial rubbing of noses with a Maori warrior in New Zealand so that I was allowed to take his picture as we were now friends. In Alaska we saw the caving of a glacier as our boat continuously circled. Walking on the Great Wall of China was incredible! The culture, temples and beauty of Thailand along with trying to retrieve my wife’s hat after a monkey climbed on her shoulders and ran away with it. Certainly a lifetime of unforgettable memories!

  1. What is your favourite part of cruising and why?

I love the idea of visiting several countries in one trip and learning about different cultures. Unpack just once. From the moment you board the ship, your vacation starts. The cruise line takes care of all required entry visas, if any.

  1. Which cruise line is your favourite and why?

Holland America is my favourite because it provides high quality dining and great entertainment on board. HAL also offers something for all ages, which makes it an ideal multi-generational vacation with grandparents.

  1. What is your favourite memory on a cruise ship?

There are quite a few favorites like sitting with a coffee on the balcony, enjoying the ocean view and wild life. The top moment was on my Alaska Inside Passage cruise. We spent a whole day sightseeing stunning blue coloured icebergs, fjords and whale/seal watching.

  2. What is your favourite Cruising destination?

Nothing can compare to cruising through the Mediterranean and visiting the different Greek Islands.
