Here is a further explanation:
With all departures we have designated a CT Rating (Craig Travel Rating). The CT Rating assigns each product with a number between 1 and 5, with 1 being considered the easiest and 5 the most difficult. To date, no journey has ever received a rating of 5.
The CT Rating is based on several factors that we feel will affect one’s ability to handle that particular journey. These include the physical challenges (length and extent of walks or walking tours, type of terrain encountered, hills, stairs, luggage movements, etc.), cultural differences, food, weather and temperature, elevation, and transportation. Here are examples…
1) Hiking tour in Italy to Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast. CT Rating – 4.5 - Very Challenging. This rating has to do with the physical challenges – long hikes over difficult terrain (the rating does no relate to the culture, food, or transportation. This is also the highest rating we have given any trip.
2) Journey to Rajasthan, India. CT Rating is - 3.5 - Challenging. This rating refers to the difficulties that members will encounter with cultural differences, food, temperature, and some longer days in the itinerary.
The CT Rating includes both a numeric level as well as a paragraph describing the meaning of the rating, outlining in more detail the challenges one might experience during the journey. You can find the written description on the brochure and on the website. If you are using a desktop you can hover the mouse over words "rating description" and the words will appear on your screen. If you are using a tablet you can also tap those words for the description. In either case the description is written in full at the bottom of the itinerary tab.
Ratings are subjective, based on our past experiences with a particular journey and the way clients rate each program. Each person is different and each will react to the ratings in their own way. Our hope is that you will be able to use this information when deciding if a particular journey is what you want and whether it suits you both physically and culturally. Obviously, if a traveller is mobility challenged, they should limit their choice to trips to ones with a lower rating. If a traveller has limited experience in exotic destinations, they should read and appreciate the cultural differences they will experience.
If you have any questions about a particular journey and the CT Rating, please feel free to contact (by phone or email) our sales team with any questions.
