Join us on this exotic new adventure as we discover the mysteries and soul of West Africa – Ghana, Togo and Benin. Historically, this region was the tragic source from which many slaves were transported to the Americas, but it is also home to the wonders of Voodoo, the mystic religion that was also carried to the Caribbean and still survives in the islands. Voodoo originated in the lands that we will visit and is still very important to the life and culture of the region.  Along with visiting villages, temples, markets and priests, we shall attend the most important Voodoo festival in the world.  Without question, this is a land of festivals, enchanting music, mysterious masks and secret societies. The mosaic of peoples who call West Africa home is one of the region's most beguiling characteristics. Other highlights will include the highlights of the Ashanti Kingdom, a visit to a national park and the relics of the colonial past, both English and French.  This is a journey through lands that are truly off the beaten track, exploring an area that few Canadians have had an opportunity to visit.  On this exploratory adventure we will use the best available accommodations and transportation, but members should appreciate that we are breaking new ground – be prepared. This group will be limited to a membership of 25 adventurers.

All members taking this journey must be in good physical health, ready and willing to accept the challenges that this adventure will entail. Throughout the program we will use first class hotels. All will be clean and comfortable by African standards and all rooms will have private washrooms. However local conditions may result in water and electricity shortages, poor road conditions with limited facilities in remote areas, limited menu choices and other realities of a third world country. We are visiting during the dry season and temperatures will range from comfortable to hot. Travel will be by air conditioned touring coach but roads in some cases will be rough (dirt or gravel). Members must be ready to experience the reality that is West Africa.
