CROSSING ITEMS OFF YOUR BUCKET LIST If
you haven't seen the movie "Bucket List" starring Jack Nicholson and
Morgan Freeman, you really must! A bucket list is a list of things you
want to do before you die and creating that list has become this
decade's darkest fad. Dave Freeman, co-author of 100 Things To Do
Before You Die, recently passed away at age 47 after falling and
hitting his head at home. He had completed less than half of his list,
but still managed to run with the bulls in Pamplona and experience
"land diving" in the South Pacific, a centuries old precursor to bungee
jumping. Since you never know when you'll kick the bucket, it's not too
early to start crossing things off your list. LATEST HOLLAND AMERICA CHANGES Holland America recently showcased its 40 million dollar renovation of the ms Veendam.
Key additions are 38 lanai staterooms on deck six, an inviting,
spacious bar called "Mix" located next to the casino on deck 8 and the
"Retreat" on the top aft of the ship on deck 11. The Lanai
staterooms are unique to the industry. Overlooking the promenade deck,
windows are floor to ceiling and one-way mirrored, so guests can peer
out at the scenery, but passers-by can't peer back in unless they are
looking directly into the room and the lights are on inside. Sliding
doors allow access to the promenade, activated by a push button on the
inside and an electronic key card from the outside. During the day
in "Mix", guests may play video checkers and chess on the electronic
tables and at night, relax and enjoy piano and guitar music in the stylish setting, which features three specialty bar areas. The "Retreat" is a lovely spot; a visual treat, with a hot tub and a
small swimming pool surrounded by 44 lounge chairs set inside a wading
area. An open-air bar and pizzeria called Slice are adjacent to the
pool.
40TH ANNIVERSARY CONTEST WINNER Winner of our May contest question and recipient of 5,000 CT points towards her next trip is Ms. Margot Fraser of Fonthill, Ontario.
Ms. Fraser correctly answered our question "In what city would you find
the tomb of the Terra Cotta Warriors? Answer: Xian, China CONGRATULATIONS, Margot! There's still time to enter our June contest! Visit our website to answer the question "What is the name of the city known as the "City of Popes?" Hint: This 2010 Oberammergau departure involves cruise and land.

CELEBRATE GROWING OLDER Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, Cleveland, Ohio. To celebrate growing older, Regina once wrote the "45 lessons life taught me". Here are a few of them.... 1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month. 6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. 7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. More from Regina next month.... | | | | OBERAMMERGAU 2010
GO FOR THE PASSION PLAY - ENJOY THE JOURNEY From
May through September next year we will operate seven unique
itineraries with over 30 departures which will be highlighted by the
very unique performance of the Passion Play in the small Bavarian
village of Oberammergau. Once each decade, the village gives up
virtually everything that they normally do to create this very special
event. Everyone in the play and the chorus as well as all those
supporting the event must come from the village and surrounding
farmlands. The performance is based on a vow made by the village elders
back in 1634, whereby they promised to put on a performance faithfully
portraying the Life and Passion of Jesus if the village was spared the
destruction of the Plague that was sweeping across Germany at the time.
History indicates that from that day forward, the village was spared. Would you like to know more? Click on the following link to visit the Oberammergau section of our website. There you will have an opportunity to see a brief PRESENTATION
(approximately four minutes) on the Play, providing images and music
from the 2000 performance. You will also find complete details on all
of our special itineraries with over 30 departures from which to
choose. Click here for more on OBERAMMERGAU 2010.
REMINDER:
If you would like to join one of our Oberammergau tours and would like
a room mate, PLEASE LET US KNOW. We have singles who are looking for
someone to share with on numerous departures.

SOUTH AMERICA - Land and Sea - We've got it!

Here
is a destination which offers not only ancient history and a wonderful
culture, it also offers a spiritual aspect in that it was here that St
Paul spent much of his time; it offers colourful and romantic islands,
beautiful beaches, the vibrant cities offering a delightful blend of
old and new; it offers a wonderful climate, excellent value and at the
end of it all, a huge desire to come back soon!
There are
hundreds of archaeological and historical sites to visit which
gloriously depict the country's past. Its landscape is mainly
mountainous and the terrain is not very fertile, except for some
valleys scattered along the Greek mainland. However, Greece is
surrounded by water, in particular the Aegean and Ionian Seas. There
are more than 1,400 islands and islets, but only 169 of them are
inhabited; the most famous being picturesque Mykonos, stunning
Santorini and fascinating Rhodes, once guarded by the massive Colossus,
one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
The best way to
experience the diversity of Greece is to explore by land and combine
with a cruise to discover the magic of the islands. To learn more about
our fall '09 departure to Greece, click here But you must book soon! Back to top

Many traveller's think that Peru
begins and ends with the staggering ruins of Machu Picchu. But, in
addition to the lively cities of Cusco and Lima, it doesn't take long
to realize, that when it comes to sightseeing, they're just the
beginning of the country's attractions. The fabulous Inca Trail is
studded with the ruins of Ollantaytambo and Pisac, while to the south
of the city of Lima, the landscape is riddled with the mysterious
Nazcar Lines.
The long, thin strip of land that makes up Chile
is home to an infinite variety of landscapes. From the soaring peaks of
the Andes to the desolate, stark beauty of Patagonia and the Atacama
Desert, it is uniformly beautiful.
South America is also home to the Amazon Rainforest,
which encompasses a mammoth 1.2 billion acres of the continent. Nature
lovers and ecotourists will find a dizzying number of different species
in the rainforest, as it's home to over 2.5 million species of insect,
2,000 birds and mammals and tens of thousands of plants.
The country of Ecuador
has a staggering biodiversity that really puts it on the map for
ecotourists. And the Galapagos Islands stand among the wonders of the
natural world in their ability to inspire awe.
For sun-seekers, Brazil
offers some of the best beaches on the planet. Residents and toursits
alike, flock to the lively nightlife and rich regional cuisine of
fabulous Rio de Janeiro. The city is also home to the remarkable
Corcovado Mountain with its Christ figure high atop its peak watching
over the spectacular bay below.
